Your wardrobe is personal. Here's exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.

Introduction

Welcome to Styler ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and processing when you use our AI-powered wardrobe management application.

By using Styler, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use our app.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

Account Information:

  • Email address (when you sign up or sign in)
  • Authentication credentials (password, or third-party authentication tokens from Google/Apple)
  • Profile information (name, username, preferences)

Style Profile: When you set up or edit your Style Profile, we collect the following self-reported information to personalize your outfit recommendations:

  • Age range (e.g., 18–24, 25–34)
  • Gender (as provided during onboarding)
  • Body type (self-identified)
  • Style vibes (e.g., minimal, streetwear, classic)
  • Dressing goals

You may update or clear these fields at any time from Profile → Style Profile.

Wardrobe Content:

  • Photos of clothing items you upload or capture
  • Metadata associated with clothing items (type, subtype, color, material, pattern, fit, season, formality)
  • Special requests and preferences for outfit generation
  • Occasion and styling preferences
  • Outfits you generate, favorite, plan, or mark as worn

Referral Data:

  • The referral code you create
  • Referrals you send and redeem
  • Free trial eligibility and expiry dates linked to your referral activity

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Device Information:

  • Device type, operating system, and version
  • Unique device identifiers
  • Mobile network information
  • App version and usage statistics

Location Data:

  • Approximate location (city/region) for weather-based outfit recommendations
  • We collect location data only when you grant permission and only while using the app

Usage Data:

  • App features you use
  • Time and frequency of app usage
  • Interaction with AI-generated outfits
  • Crash reports and performance data (via Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring)

Website Analytics (stylerapp.ai): When you visit our marketing website at stylerapp.ai, and only after you accept the cookie banner, we collect aggregated and anonymized usage statistics through Google Analytics 4 — including pages viewed, referrer, device and browser type, and approximate (city/region-level) location derived from your IP address. We use Google's Consent Mode v2 with all storage categories denied by default; nothing is collected until you opt in. IP addresses are anonymized by Google before storage and are not used for advertising.

Tracking Identifiers (iOS only): On iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework requires your explicit permission before we can access the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). We will show you the ATT prompt, and we only read the IDFA if you grant authorization. You can revoke this at any time from your iOS Settings. We do not currently use the IDFA for advertising — we rely on consent-gated analytics only.

1.3 Camera and Photo Library Access

We request access to your device camera and photo library to:

  • Capture photos of clothing items
  • Upload existing photos from your gallery
  • Enable wardrobe digitization features

Important: We only access photos you explicitly select or capture through our app. We do not scan your entire photo library.

1.4 Push Notifications

We collect device tokens and notification preferences to send you:

  • Outfit analysis completion notifications
  • Wardrobe processing updates
  • Planner reminders for outfits you've scheduled at a specific date and time
  • Optional styling tips and recommendations

Planner reminders are scheduled by our backend based on the date and time you choose when planning an outfit, and are delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging. You can toggle individual notification categories in Profile → Notifications.

1.5 Granular Consent

Styler uses a versioned consent system. On first launch you are asked to accept or decline optional services (such as analytics) individually; essential services required for the app to function are always on. Your choices, the consent version, and the timestamp are stored on your account. You can change your choices at any time from Profile → Consent Management, and optional services will be disabled retroactively for future processing.

1.6 Sharing Features

When you tap Share on a generated outfit or a weekly planner view, Styler renders an image on your device and hands it to your operating system's share sheet. Once the image leaves the share sheet (for example, into a messaging app), it is no longer under Styler's control and is governed by the receiving app's privacy practices.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

2.1 Core Service Delivery

  • Authenticate your account and provide access to your wardrobe
  • Analyze and categorize clothing items using AI technology
  • Generate personalized outfit recommendations
  • Provide weather-based styling suggestions using your location
  • Store and organize your digital wardrobe

2.2 AI Processing and Machine Learning

  • Image Analysis: We use artificial intelligence to identify clothing attributes (color, type, pattern, formality)
  • Outfit Generation: AI algorithms create outfit combinations based on your wardrobe, preferences, and context
  • Personalization: Machine learning improves recommendations based on your usage patterns

Important AI Disclosure: We use automated decision-making to suggest outfits. These are recommendations only—you maintain full control over your wardrobe and outfit choices. Our AI does not make decisions that significantly affect your legal rights.

2.3 Service Improvement

  • Analyze app performance and fix technical issues
  • Understand user behavior to improve features
  • Conduct research and development for new features

2.4 Communication

  • Send transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
  • Deliver push notifications about processing status
  • Respond to your support requests

We do NOT:

  • Use your photos to train AI models for other users or third parties
  • Sell your personal information to third parties
  • Use your data for advertising purposes
  • Share your wardrobe content publicly without your consent

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1 Third-Party Service Providers

We share limited information with trusted service providers who assist us in operating our app:

Authentication Services:

  • Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information (name, email) according to Google's privacy practices
  • Apple Sign-In: If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive authenticated identity information per Apple's privacy standards

Cloud Infrastructure:

  • Appwrite: Backend services for account data, wardrobe documents, file storage, and serverless functions

Subscription and Purchase Management:

  • RevenueCat: Manages subscription entitlements and consumable in-app purchases (Thread packs). RevenueCat receives an anonymized user identifier and purchase receipts in order to grant you access to paid features across devices.

Analytics, Crash Reporting, and Performance:

  • Firebase Analytics (mobile app): De-identified usage statistics (only when you accept analytics consent)
  • Firebase Crashlytics: Anonymous crash reports to help us diagnose bugs
  • Firebase Performance Monitoring: App performance traces (network latency, screen render times)
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging: Push notification delivery
  • Google Analytics 4 (website only): Aggregated, anonymized usage statistics for stylerapp.ai (pages viewed, referrer, device and browser type, approximate location). Loaded only after you accept the website's cookie banner. Configured with IP anonymization, no advertising features, and Google's Consent Mode v2 set to deny by default.

AI Processing:

  • We use third-party AI and machine-learning providers to analyze wardrobe photos and generate outfit recommendations. Images are transmitted securely and processed solely to return attributes and outfits to your account. These providers are contractually prohibited from retaining, reusing, or training models on your content.

Location Services:

  • Weather data providers to fetch local weather conditions for outfit recommendations

All third-party providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.

3.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental request, or to:

  • Protect our legal rights
  • Prevent fraud or security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations

3.3 Business Transfers

If Styler is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services:

  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Wardrobe Images: Stored in our Appwrite storage buckets until you delete individual items or your account
  • Generation & Planner History: Retained to power Insights and history features; deleted with your account
  • Local Cache: An on-device ObjectBox database caches your wardrobe for offline browsing and is cleared on logout or uninstall
  • Consent Records: Retained for the life of your account to demonstrate compliance with GDPR/CCPA
  • Usage Analytics: Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained indefinitely
  • Deleted Data: Permanently removed from our systems within 90 days of deletion request

You can delete individual wardrobe items, clear your history, or delete your entire account at any time from Profile → Delete Account.

5. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

5.1 GDPR Rights (EU/EEA Users)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Restriction: Limit how we process your data
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)

5.2 CCPA/CPRA Rights (California Users)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act and Privacy Rights Act, you have the right to:

  • Know: What personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Delete: Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt-Out: Opt-out of sale of personal information (Note: We do NOT sell your data)
  • Non-Discrimination: Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights
  • Correct: Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Limit Use of Sensitive Information: Restrict use of sensitive personal information

Sensitive Personal Information: We collect precise geolocation only with your explicit permission and use it solely for weather-based outfit recommendations.

5.3 How to Exercise Your Rights

  3. We will respond within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA)

No Fees: We will not charge you for making a request unless it is excessive or manifestly unfounded.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

Technical Safeguards:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Encryption at rest for stored data
  • Secure authentication protocols
  • Regular security audits and updates

Access Controls:

  • Role-based access for our team
  • Multi-factor authentication for administrative access
  • Regular access reviews

Important: No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

Styler is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately, and we will delete such information.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws.

When we transfer data internationally, we:

  • Use standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission
  • Ensure adequate safeguards are in place
  • Comply with applicable data protection laws

9. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

In the mobile app:

  • Session Storage: To maintain your logged-in state
  • On-device cache (ObjectBox): To cache wardrobe data for offline access
  • Analytics: De-identified usage statistics, only when you accept analytics consent

On our website (stylerapp.ai):

  • Google Analytics 4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*): Set only after you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. They distinguish unique visitors, count visits, and identify returning sessions. They expire after up to 2 years and contain no personally identifiable information.
  • Consent storage (styler.cookieConsent.v1): A single entry in your browser's localStorage that remembers your accept-or-decline choice so we don't show the banner on every visit. Strictly necessary; not used for tracking.
  • Default-denied consent: We use Google's Consent Mode v2. Until you accept, no analytics cookies are set, no identifiers are stored, and no analytics events are sent. If you decline, the site continues to work without any analytics.

We do NOT use third-party advertising cookies, advertising trackers, cross-site tracking, or fingerprinting in the app or on our website.

10. Third-Party Links

Our app may contain links to third-party services (e.g., weather providers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external services. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect:

  • Changes in our practices
  • New legal requirements
  • Service improvements

Notification: We will notify you of material changes via:

  • In-app notification
  • Email to your registered address
  • Updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

Your continued use of Styler after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We respect the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will treat it as a request to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (though we do not sell data).
